CRTS Campus Visit Day

Dear Prospective Student,

Here at CRTS we’d like to invite you to come and experience a day at seminary.  You’ll meet faculty, staff, and students alike.  You’ll sit in on a couple of regular classes.  You’ll participate in special sessions that give you a glimpse into what seminary life is all about.  This is a little taste of seminary.  In the end, our God may, or may not, lead you to study for the ministry (our MDiv program), or another area of Christian leadership (our BTh/DipThSt programs), or something entirely different.  Whatever happens in the end, Campus Visit Day will help you think, and more importantly pray, about it more concretely.

Will you join us?

Dr. Jason Van Vliet, Principal

Schedule of Events

9:30 - Arrival and Welcome

9:45 to 10:30 – A Debate on Doctrine: Thesis Defense Friday
Every Friday in the Dogmatics class, two students go up to the front of the class with a thesis that they’ve made up.  A thesis is a statement about a certain doctrine that a student is willing to defend, while his professor and fellow students lob challenging questions at him.  Through the debate we are all refined in our understanding of Scripture.

10:30 to 10:45 -  Coffeetime
A BIG tradition at the seminary: everyone in the building gets together for 15 minutes, and if it’s someone’s birthday, we sing and even eat cake, too!

10:45 to 11:05 - Info Session: Admission Requirements
What about the academic side of things?  If someone is interested in studying for the ministry, what kind of courses should he focus on in university in his bachelor program?  Also, what our the entrance requirements for the other programs at the seminary, namely, the Bachelor of Theology and the Diploma of Theological Studies.  Get your questions answered here in this session.

11:05 to 11:25 - Info Session: Spiritual Formation Program
Seminary is about more than lectures and research papers.  We recognize that students at CRTS ought to grow spiritually as they prepare for the ministry (M.Div.) or other leadership positions (B.Th./Dip.Th.St.).  More specifically, we aim to grow in our prayers and devotional life, in mentorship and accountability, and in fellowship and encouragement.  This session will explain how we cultivate these things at CRTS.

11:35 to 12:20 - Evangelistics 101
Actually this course is called “2514 World Religions and Evangelistics”, but on Oct 18th we’re transitioning from the World Religions section to the Evangelism part of the course.  Yes, we want to be more active and faithful in evangelizing to those who do not know Christ.  But how?  Where to begin?  That’s what this class explores.

12:25 to 12:45 -  Chapel wtih Dr. Smith

12:45 to 1:25 - Lunch with Students

1:25 to 1:40 - Building Tour

1:40 to 2:00 - Info Session: Pastoral Training Program
Many high schools have co-op options in which a student can gain some practical experience in an area that they are interested in.  Well, our seminary has something like that as well.  We call the Pastoral Training Program, or PTP, for short.  This program has a number of different practical experience components that will help students learn, in a hands-on way, about what life is really like in the ministry, how catechism class should be taught, what mission work and evangelism look like in practice, and even a full summer working alongside an experienced minister.  Find out all the details in our session on the PTP.

2:00 - Closing with the Principal
